Was a covenant confirmed right under our noses?

WASHINGTON, July 27, 2012 U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday signed a piece of legislation that gives Israel 70 million dollars for its “Iron Dome” rocket defense system, one day before his Republican rival in the 2012 presidential election Mitt Romney is scheduled to visit that country. Obama signed the “United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012″ to grant additional funding for Israel’s production of the Iron Dome system for the year. The Iron Dome is a short-range rocket defense system, which has shot down rockets fired at Israel. “I have made it a top priority for my administration to deepen cooperation with Israel across the whole spectrum of security issues — intelligence, military, technology,” said Obama before signing the bill in the Oval Office. According to a White House factsheet, Obama has, “despite tough fiscal times,” fought for and secured full funding for Israel in the current fiscal year, including 3 billion dollars in Foreign Military Financing — the largest amount of funding for Israel in U.S. history.

From the Olympics to the Middle East, Mitt Romney is hoping to hit the reset button on a foreign trip that was supposed to show off his credentials as a statesman. He may have his work cut out for him. Romney will be going from the U.K., the closest ally of the U.S., to the Middle East. It’s one of the most sensitive diplomatic arenas on earth, and he’ll be meeting with Israeli leaders at one of the most sensitive times of the year in the Jewish calendar.

Iron Dome

The Iron Dome is an effective and innovative mobile defense solution for countering short range rockets and 155 mm artillery shell threats with ranges of up to 70 km in all weather conditions, including low clouds, rain, dust storms or fog. The system uses a unique interceptor with a special warhead that detonates any target in the air within seconds. The Iron Dome is a cost effective system that can handle multiple threats simultaneously and efficiently.

Of course, all three reports are in light of being the 9th Day of Av, which I don’t believe is a ‘coincidence’ at all, and all three reports prompted me to think about some of the most infamous prophetic verses of the holy Scriptures.

Daniel 9:24-27 (KJV) Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Traditionally, the view is that the prophesied ’70th Week’ of Daniel’s 70 Weeks is a 7-year period (Tribulation and Great Tribulation), which begins with the agreement between the prince who is to come, a descendent of the Roman armies, and Israel allowing the Jewish Temple to be rebuilt.

Stopping right there for a moment, interesting how there are at least ’revelatory ripples’, or allusions to the coming fulfillment of these prophecies, aren’t there? After all, the world has on it’s radar at the moment a true ’Prince’ (given Prince William’s presence being center stage at the London Olympics), an’agreement/covenant’ (due to President Obama’s legislation and possibly with Mitt Romney’s visit and words to Israel today), and thoughts of another ‘Temple’ (since today is the 9th Day of Av and history brings to mind the destruction of the Jewish Temples of days past). 

So, my point, is that it’s compelling to see real-world events sort of give a hat tip (a wink-and-a-nod) to God’s Word and the nearness of the fulfillment of the end times prophecies within in, IMHO.

In addition to the Biblical proofs there is a tie in with Daniel’s prophecy of the 70th Week, I also noticed a few other things that deserve mentioning here.

I learned that the ‘Iron Dome’ rocket defense system has a range of…you guessed it…70 km. Odd, right? I also discovered that the Iron Dome system is produced by a company called ‘Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.’, which is equally curious.

‘Rafael’ alludes to the archangel ‘Raphael’, and that translates to “It is God who heals”, “God Heals”, and/or “God, Please Heal” I found. In the extra-Biblical and non-Biblical Book of Enoch, it’s Raphael who bound Azazel under a desert called ‘Dudael’ we’re told. Interestingly enough, Dudael is commonly thought to be located in Gaza since ‘Dudael’ also means ‘Great Desert’ and ‘Fiery Caldron.’ Furthermore, there is one place in Israel that fits that description — the Negev, which has one of its borders on Gaza (reference to ‘Azazel’?). I think a better answer is to say that Dudael has been determined to be somewhere between modern day Egypt and the Mount Sinai region, and that some Biblical scholars believe it could be linked to the Bottomless Pit. I’ve read that the Jewish midrash writings say that Mount Hermon is the “gate” to the Bottomless Pit itself though, and that Mount Hermon resides in modern day Syria.

Not coincidentally, Raphael is honored in Islam. According to the hadith, he is the angel responsible for signaling the coming of Judgment Day by blowing the trumpet (called the ‘Sûr’). According to Islamic tradition, the trumpet will be blown three times. The first blow of the trumpet will signal the beginning of Last Day and the second blow will signal the death of every living thing including angels, demons, and humans, and the third blow will signal the time when all the souls from all ages will be gathered for the Last Judgement.

Coming full circle (pun intended given the preponderance of ‘circles’ in the London Olympics), you just knew there had to be a connection to the London Olympics. For me, I’d called last night’s Opening Ceremony a ‘Paradise Lost’ sort of display to the world if I had to sum it up in just two words. Did you know that Raphael plays a key role in John Milton’s classic Paradise Lost? Milton, by the way, is often considered the ‘Greatest English Author’ too.

The angel Raphael, along with many other prominent angels, appears in Milton’s Paradise Lost, in which he is assigned by God to re-warn Adam concerning the sin of eating of the Tree of Knowledge. He also expounds to Adam the War in Heaven in which Lucifer and the demons fell, and the creation of the Earth.

Yep, definitely recall seeing things during last night’s Opening Ceremony that made me instantly think of the Tree of Knowledge and the Bottomless Pit.

Don’t let the primary focus of this piece be lost on you though. The question we need to be asking ourselves (prayerfully considering) is this: Has Israel entered into “a covenant with death” on the 9th Day of Av through the signing of H.R. 4133 United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012?
